Two time American League manager of the year Joe Maddon sudden resignation from the Tampa Bay Rays was stunning. After his friend GM Andrew Friedman left the Rays to become GM of the Dodgers, Maddon was informed he had an opt out clause in his contract and decided to take it.
Where does Maddon go from here?
How about the Chicago Cubs? Yes they have a manager in Rick Renteria, and the Cubs would have to pay him a lot of money to buy him out of his contract. However, that is a small price to pay.
The Cubs have some of the best prospects in baseball, and Maddon is a two time manager of the year with a young Rays team. Plus, a veteran manager could influence more Free Agents to head to Wrigley.
In closing, do not put anything past Theo Epstein and Cubs GM Jed Hoyer.
