Ron Santo: Hall of Famer

Awesome weekend for Cubs fans like myself.

Against the Cardinals? Not so much. We witnessed Ryan Dempster's scoreless streak end on Friday, a twelve run inning on Saturday which ended up being the final score 12-0, and a 7-0 loss today.

The great news was that Ron Santo was inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame. It was long overdue, and should have been given to him while he was alive, (I remember Ryne Sandberg openly trying to get Santo inducted in his HOF speech) He was inducted alongside Barry Larkin.

Santo never played on a great or even a good Cubs team, but he played hard every day. It was recognized by the fans and even the opponents on the other team. Santo was a nine time all star, a four time Gold Glove award winner, and hit 342 homeruns in his career. He played baseball with diabetes, and hid it for years, out of fear that he would lose the game he loved so much.

This truly is a great day for Cubs fans everywhere. Ron Santo is finally getting the recognition he deserves as one of the all time greats.
